Influenster Frosty Vox Box: My Thoughts

*I received these products complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes, but all thoughts and opinions are my own.*

I was so excited to receive the Frosty Vox Box from Influenster! I had seen some sneak peeks of what was in it so I knew there would be some goodies I would love to try!

Celestial Seasonings Candy Cane Lane Green Tea

I LOVE peppermint tea so I knew I would like this, but what took it over the top was the yummy vanilla spiced flavor it had. SO good, I wish it was available all year!

Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal Eyeliner

This is a great eyeliner! It goes on really smooth so it was much easier to apply than some of my other liners and is a nice, true black. It's supposed to be waterproof, but it does smudge pretty easily so you have to be careful with that. I do like to smudge my liner a little for the smoky look sometimes, so it works great for that!

Rimmel Gentle Eye Makeup Remover

This was not my favorite. It took a lot more scrubbing with this to get my eye makeup off than it does with my usual remover. It also kind of stung my eyes which is strange considering it's supposed to be gentle, and again, my usual remover doesn't sting. I'll still use it because it does work, just not as well as my usual. I wouldn't purchase this one.

I LOVE this lip color! It goes on really smooth and has just enough moisture to not dry out my lips or feel cakey, but not so much that it's tacky or sticky. Plus the color is so pretty! On me it looks like a slightly more pigmented nude, so it looks like my natural color but with a boost.

Fruit Vines Bites Cherry

These are yummy! Not my favorite candy ever, but I like them! I don't like a lot of cherry candies, they almost taste like cough syrup to me sometimes, but this one had a nice, not overwhelming cherry flavor and a good soft, chewy consistency. And I like that they are bite sized, perfect for a movie snack!

McCormick Gourmet All Natural Thyme

I actually haven't had a chance to try this one yet, I hope to have a recipe that calls for thyme soon! But I always love McCormick products, so I have no concerns.

Boots No7 Protect and Perfect Intense Advanced Serum

This product claims to give you younger looking skin with fewer lines and wrinkles in one month or less. Since I only had enough to try it for about a week it was hard to tell if there was really much of a difference. I did enjoy how it felt on my skin, it was lightweight and silky smooth, and didn't feel heavy or oily at all. I would definitely be interested in buying a whole bottle and using it more long term to see how it works!

EcoTools Sleek + Shine

I really liked this brush! At first I wasn't sure what to think of it because I don't usually use brushes with the softer bristles like these. I thought it might not really get through my hair and detangle it. But it definitely did! It's great to use while drying your hair, the bristle pattern and holes in the middle help the air to flow better and I definitely noticed my hair dried faster than it usually does. And when I use it to brush my hair when it's dry, it gives it a nice shine and cuts down on the frizz.

Well, that's everything in the Frosty Vox Box! If you would like to be an Influenster and receive free products to review, sign up here

Confessions

So sorry I am super late with posting this today! I had fit club last night and then we watched the finale of HIMYM and then it was bedtime. Oh and about HIMYM- I can't EVEN with that ending so let's not go there.

* Do you ever get waaay too emotionally involved in a book series or TV series and when it ends you're all sad and don't know what to do with yourself? Yeah, that definitely didn't happen to me yesterday. (Note to self: In the future DO NOT finish both a book series and a TV series in the same day, you can't deal)

* On a related note, I have an irrational pet peeve about when someone sees me reading a book and asks me what I'm reading. Unless it's a really popular book that everyone knows the basic plot of I'm always like well I can tell you the title but what else do I say about it? It's a book about people and things? Like, do you want a full plot synopsis or what? I know I'm weird, I think it's because reading is a very personal thing to me and I'm afraid someone's going to judge me for my reading choices. Plus reading is my escape from the real world so I don't want to talk to people about it if that makes any sense at all.

* After a stressful phone call at work I NEEDED Starbucks so I went over lunch and they didn't have iced coffee (What???) but she said she could make me an Americano instead and now I'm straight up buzzing. Regular old drip coffee is plenty caffeine for me, espresso and water is not a good idea. You should see all of the typos right now, thank goodness for spell check.

* Adam and I have set aside this Saturday as our day trip day for January and I STILL have no idea what we're going to do. I had a couple of ideas but they're mostly all outdoors and while it has been pretty nice here so far this week I'm concerned that the weather will turn on us because it is January after all. Plus I'm trying to think of things that won't cost much because budget.

* (If you couldn't tell when I've had too much caffeine in addition to typing too fast I also type a lot of run-on sentences because I'm pretty much typing how it sounds in my head which is one long sentence with no pauses or breathing.)

* Tomorrow is my Friday! That's not really a confession I just wanted to say it.

* Today is my first day wearing my new pale pink/nude patent leather flats from Target (on clearance!) and they already have a black skid mark on the side of them from who knows what. This is why we can't have nice things. Does anyone know the best way to clean patent leather?

That's all I got for today. Link it up!

My Favorite Custom Cakes

Happy Monday everyone! My weekend was wonderful, I got so much done around the house and surprised Adam with his favorite coffee cake, plus got a lot of resting done, planned my meals for the week and went grocery shopping, and even got to the library to pick up some books for the week.

I didn't get any pics to share however, and I don't think a detailed description of my vacuuming and dusting would be that entertaining, so I thought instead I would do something a little different today. A few of you have shown some interest in my former life as a cake decorator, so I thought it might be fun to share some of my favorite cakes that Adam and I did for our customers:

This one was for a baby shower with a jungle theme, I had waaay too much fun creating that little lion! Everything is edible, the lion is made of gum paste and royal icing.

This one was a groom's cake for an Alf fan. If you don't know who Alf is, I don't want to know because it just makes me feel old.

This one was another baby shower, obviously a western theme. I LOVE baby shower cakes, they are just so much fun and always have a cool theme that's easy to get creative with. Once again, everything is edible. It's iced in buttercream with piped buttercream paisley pattern, the boots and hat are made of gum paste,  and the rope is made of fondant.

We did this one for a local school fundraiser, they were doing a fall "cake walk" type event, so we thought it would be fun to do a Jack O'Lantern!

This was another groom's cake, the groom is a hunter. And yes, it was red velvet inside. I know.

This was a first birthday and we had SO much fun with this one! The hat and candle is gum paste, all of the other decorations are fondant.

This was for a styled wedding shoot. A styled shoot is where many different wedding vendors get together and create a mock wedding with a certain theme, it's meant to showcase a certain theme or style. This one is covered in fondant and the decorations are meant to mimic tissue paper poms and are made of gum paste.

This was a birthday cake, at the height of the chevron craze. I still kind of love chevron, even if some say it's tired and overdone.

Another groom's cake, this one we modeled after the groom's electric bass.

This was also for the local school's fundraiser, they always have it in the fall so we did another fall theme. The "barrel" is a cake covered in fondant made to look like slats of wood, and the leaves, owl, etc. are gum paste and fondant.

Finally this is a wedding cake with the fondant ruffle effect. I love how the bride chose the ombré look, one of my favorite looks on a cake.

There are TONS more in our archives, but these are just some of my favorites that we have done over the years. Thanks so much for looking! Even though we don't do it much anymore, I still have a passion for it and get a lot of joy from designing and decorating. I hope to pick it back up again someday, even if just for fun.

If you have any questions about these designs or just cakes in general, I am happy to answer!

Friday Favorites

So I spent the last half of this week with some head cold thing, which let me tell you is all kinds of fun at work. (Although in spite of feeling like crap I still managed to work out every day this week, which I'm pretty siked about. It's almost becoming like a challenge to myself of how long I can keep this up, I'm hoping at least for the 3 weeks of 21 Day Fix.)

So I'm really looking forward to sleeping in tomorrow and staying home! I know, crazy party girl right here. I'm really hoping to get A LOT done around the house this weekend too, including meal planning and grocery shopping which I totally slacked on this week. I've GOT to come up with some more healthy lunch and snack ideas for work, I am in a definite rut! Which causes me to get bored and want to eat fried chicken and cheeseburgers, but I digress...

ANYWAYS...

I got this a while ago but I am just especially loving these Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters right now! Especially this color:

Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in Red Velvet

Perfect fall/winter color! It goes on smooth and has such a nice solid color to it without being too much.

Favorite Workout:

I got a chance to try Insanity Max30 at Fit Club this week and OH.MY.GOSH. It was intense, and I seriously have never worked my triceps so hard in MY LIFE.

But it's always good when you get done and your dripping sweat (Eeew) and can't feel your arms or legs.

5 Ways to Earn Free Gift Cards

WARNING- Ridiculously long but hopefully informative post ahead!

I don't know about you, but with trying to maintain a budget and watch our extraneous spending, I'm always on the lookout for good deals, coupons, and ways to make the most of our money. Of course the ideal is to never eat out or go shopping for anything other than necessities, but seriously, how boring would that be?? Being disciplined is great, but it helps a lot  to have a treat now and then!

That's where gift cards can come in. For my birthday this past year I was so blessed by my lovely friends with several gift cards to Starbucks and various restaurants. I was so excited because I knew that meant some coffee treats and nights out with Adam! It's so nice to have a way to treat ourselves without spending as much of what I call our "Entertainment" budget. As I used those cards I thought about how great it would be to always have one or two gift cards to our favorite restaurants handy for when we wanted a night out or were just too busy with no time to cook!

I had heard of sites where you can earn points towards various rewards, some of which were gift cards. So I signed up with several and have been using them for a few months now. I thought I would share the ones I use in hopes that it might help you earn some freebies too! I know a lot of you already know about and/or use these sites, but hopefully this will help someone who may not have known! These are all free to sign up, and you can start earning points immediately!

I was not compensated for this post, but some of these are my referral link to the site, and I receive credit if you sign up under my link. Thank you!

One

Swagbucks

This is probably my most used site for earning gift cards. There are many different ways you can earn "SB's", but these are the ones I use the most:

+Daily Poll, NOSO's, and Encrave- These only pay 1 or 2 Swagbucks a piece, but they are pretty quick and easy, and you can do them once a day.

+Surveys- These pay out a lot more (generally anywhere from 30-200 Swagbucks per survey), but they are more time consuming, and can sometimes be frustrating if you get disqualified a lot. It asks several qualifying questions, and if you don't fit the demographic they are looking for, it will kick you out and you only get 1 Swagbuck for your trouble. Still, surveys are the way I get most of mine.

+Shop and Earn- This is great if you do a lot of online shopping. The amount of bucks you earn per purchase varies by store and sometimes even by season, but typically you are earning around 1-10 SB's per dollar, or 1% to 10% cash back. These also take longer to credit to your account, so you can't spend them right away. According to the Swagbucks website it can take up to 90 days to credit to your account, but I've never had it take that long.

+Coupons- This one's pretty cool, especially if you use grocery coupons- if you print your coupons through Swagbucks, you get 10 SB per coupon redeemed (You don't get the SB unless you actually redeem the coupon, you can't just print it). I'm going to use coupons anyway, so why not get a little reward for it?

+Search- This is when you use the search on the Swagbucks page OR you search through the toolbar, which you can install in your browser if you prefer to not have to go to the website every time you want to search the internet. It's random, you won't get rewarded every time you search, but again, if you're searching the internet anyway, might as well do it through SB and occasionally earn some SB's for it!

As I said there are many more ways to earn on the site, but these are the ones I use the most often and have the most success with.

Two

MyPoints

This one I use the most after Swagbucks. It's similar, but there aren't as many ways to earn. It's really more about cash back on purchases.

+Shop- this is set up the same as Swagbucks in that when you click on the link to the site from MyPoints.com, you will automatically get points credited to your account when you purchase. So for example if you need to buy something on Amazon.com, first go to MyPoints and sign into your account, then click on "shop", find the Amazon.com link and click on it, it will take you to Amazon and now just shop as usual. Again it takes some time to receive credit for the purchase.

*When I am making a purchase online I usually check both Swagbucks and MyPoints to see who is offering the better cash back percentage on that particular site. It's always changing too, so check every time before you make a purchase!*

+Surveys- You can earn about 50 points per survey usually, but they only have about 2 surveys available per day, so not as many as Swagbucks. If you are disqualified from the survey, you do get still get 10 points for your trouble.

+Search- The reward for searching is a little different here- it's more guaranteed but not as often as Swagbucks. On MyPoints you have to hit a certain amount of searches through their search engine (or toolbar) each month, and then you will definitely get a certain amount of points based on how many searches you did that month.

+Coupons- This one also has the option to print coupons and receive points for each one redeemed. You get 10 points for each coupon redeemed, and if you redeem 10 or more in a month, you get 25 bonus points.

+Bonus Mail- If you don't mind a little extra email (I KNOW, we all get too much) this is a super quick and easy way to earn points. They usually send 2 or 3 a day, and all you have to do is click the link to the site being advertised (Like Walmart.com, etc.) and you get 5 points, no purchase necessary. I do this every day and it adds up!

These next two are surveys only, and I don't use them as much but I have gotten a few goodies with them!

Three

Ipsos I-say

+ The surveys for this one pay 45 or 90 points a piece, but there aren't a whole lot available each day, so I just do them when I can and don't focus too much of my efforts on it. It takes me a lot longer to earn rewards, so I just let the points slowly accumulate. Sometimes I will have several successful surveys in a row, other times I keep getting disqualified so I'll stop for a while.

Four

My Survey

+This is another one that takes me a while to earn enough for a reward, so I just try one or two surveys a day and leave it at that.

*I don't have a referral link for this one, referrals are done through email, so if you would like to join let me know in the comments and I can send you an invite!

This last one is a shopping app, so completely different!

Five

Shopkick

+This is my newest addition and boy do I have fun with it! The app is free and you are basically earning points just for going to your favorite stores and scanning items with your phone! I use it most at Target and Walmart, but there are a lot of other stores on it. The way it works is that you pull up the app on your phone before you go in to the store, and as soon as you walk in it will give you "kicks" (points) for walking in the store. Then there is a list of products that you have to find and scan in the store to get more "kicks" (no purchase necessary). Then you can redeem the kicks for gift cards to Target, Starbucks, Home Goods, and more! Not gonna lie, this is pretty much how I fund my iced coffee addiction.

There are tons of other survey and reward sites out there, but I've tried to limit myself to these so as not to overwhelm myself!

PHEW! I know that was A LOT of words. Thanks for reading, and let me know if you have any questions about any of the above, I hope it was all clear and easy to understand!

Do you use reward sites? What are your favorites?
