This is not a Birthday Weekend post, but it should be

Hey y'all! I had the most lovely birthday weekend! Which involved lots of shopping, eating and staying up waaaay too late watching TV marathons so I'm not prepared with a post today. Womp, womp.

So I'm at work but barely. I'd rather have stayed home and played with all my new toys (i.e. clothes) and eat the rest of the massive piece of chocolate cake we ordered for dessert last night.

Instead I'm here and I packed tuna and broccoli for lunch.

All this to say I am a bad blogger with no recap post BUT I will try to have one put together for tomorrow because I know my life is super interesting to you and you're all dying to hear about every detail, right??

Right. That's what I figured.

Anyways, thank you for tolerating my lameness today. The end.

Friday Favorites: Birthday Wish List

*This post contains affiliate links*

So I will be turning the big 3-2 on Monday, and of course I've had my eye on some goodies I would like. Because it's my birthday and I'll shop if I want to (shop if I want to). That's not how the song goes, is it? Well it should be.

Anyways...

Old Navy Linen Shorts in Blue Stripe

I have these linen shorts in navy blue from last year and they are summer perfection. Light and loose and a super cute fit. I want them in all the colors, but I would be happy with these totes adorbs striped ones.

Old Navy Printed Twill Shorts in White Ikat

I love pretty much all Old Navy shorts, they fit me really well and they always look good! I love this ikat print.

Anne Klein Rose Gold Stud Earrings

So Adam got me these exact earrings for Christmas and I LOVE them so very much. They go with literally everything. Which means I was wearing them constantly which means I lost one. Normally I would just be like, oh well but I seriously love these enough to buy them again. Plus they're under $10!

Maxi skirt

My maxi skirt has seen better days, I have worn it so much that the fabric is getting that pilly look and just looking sad so I would like to get a new one so I can wear it to death too.

State of FL Earrings

Itty bitty Florida earrings! Every Florida girl needs these, right??

I don't really need another purse but this one is soooo pretty. And looks like it could hold a lot.

Fedora

Wouldn't this be so cute for 4th of July on the beach??

Pajama Shorts

I've been wanting some cute summery pj shorts and these are perfect and have little birdies on them!

And here's a funny, because every Friday needs a funny:

We shall see if the birthday fairy grants my wishes! Hope you all have a lovely weekend, I'm taking my birthday off on Monday so I am looking forward to a lovely three day weekend!

Things I Used to Be Like Whaaa?? But Now I Totally Get

Hello, longest title ever! But I couldn't figure out a more succinct way to say that and now it's growing on me so it stays.

These things are completely random and have nothing to do with each other.

Hashtags:

I think the reason hashtags used to annoy me is because I just didn't get the point. For one thing it took me a loooong time to hop on the Twitter train and I would just see people using them on Facebook and be like "What is the point of this??" Also it annoyed me when people would basically write their entire status as one long hashtag and it is SO hard to read.

Like #wenttothestoreandgotsomeapplesthey'redeliciousyayhealthyeating. Really?? Maybe cut that down to like 3 words instead of 20, mmkay? #myeyes

But now I like hashtags and use them all the time, especially since I get the purpose now and I got with the 21st century and joined the Twitter and the Insta. Plus they're fun. I still try not to abuse them though, like the example above because that's just not good for anyone. #hashtagresponsibly

Gifs:

I seriously could not even look at gifs for the longest time because the way they looped over and over I was sure they were going to give me a seizure. Again, I just didn't really get the point. But now I LURVE them, sometimes nothing else communicates your feelings quite like a well placed gif.

Exercise as stress relief:

I used to roll my eyes and think "Puh-lease!" when people would say that working out helped them get out frustrations and that when they were having a bad day or they were stressed, a good sweat session would make them feel loads better. I think that's because I used to think of working out as a "have to" and a chore instead of a "want to" and a privilege. So anytime someone would say that I pretty much went, "Yeah, uh-huh, ok, LIES."

But once I really got into nutrition and fitness and realized how much better my body feels in general when I'm working out consistently I realized how true it is. Getting out there and pounding the pavement or lifting weights for 30 minutes can really soothe the irritations of the day and make you feel so much better, sometimes to the point where I'm like, "Why was I so annoyed again?" Plus endorphins.

Guacamole:

I blame this one on the fact that the only guacamole I had tried was that nasty pre-made, bagged stuff they plop on top of your burrito at Taco Bell or whatever. *GAG* Then we went to Cantina Laredo a few years ago and the friends we were with ordered the table side guac. The guy brought out all of his supplies and started squashing the avocados and chopping the onions and grinding the cilantro and I was kind of mesmerized. So when they asked if I wanted to try it I thought "Eh, what the heck, I'll try a little" and from that moment on I was hooked. Heaven on a tortilla chip, I do declare.

What's funny is my husband *HATES* guac but he makes the BEST I have ever eaten. And no, he doesn't use a recipe, he just throws it all together. He says it's because he used to have to make it for the Mexican restaurant he worked at, but really I think it's just because he's awesome at everything and it makes me sick (Just kidding I actually love that about him).

Smartphones:

I'm kind of a Trekkie. NBD.
Yes, smartphones. Just like most technology things, it took Adam and I a long time to get smartphones, and they only reason we got them when we did is because we got a really good deal on them and they were part of the package. We used to be all "Kids and there new-fangled phone doo-hickeys!" and shake our fists before we settled down into our rocking chairs on the front porch (Ok, that may be a slight exxageration, but not by much).

Mainly we just didn't want to pay the extra money for a data plan and a more expensive phone. I guess in the strictest sense of the word our old phones were smartphones, but they weren't internet capable. We just didn't think we would really use the internet on our phone. Hahaha. HAHAHA. AHAHAHAHAHA.

Ahem, sorry. But seriously I use the internet on my phone ALL the time now. Even aside from FB and Insta and Twitter, I'm always Googling, or Google Mapping, or Shazaming, or FB Messenging, or using my DD and Starbucks apps to pay for coffee, or Cartwheeling, etc. It's amazing how "essential" something becomes once you get used to having it. And although sometimes I still think it's wack to be this connected all the time and want to throw my phone away and move to the Bermuda Triangle, I get it now. They are just so darn convenient.

Well I suppose I could go on, but I've bored you enough. What are some things that you used to be like "meh" and now love?

Friday Favorites: Forever 21 Edition

So once upon a time, I walked into this store called Forever 21. And I stopped. And stared. And stared. And I think I kind of blacked out for a minute there.

And then I came to and I was like SON OF A NUTCRACKER this is a lot of clothing. There were racks and racks (and racks) of clothes, everywhere I looked with the clothes. I just kind of wandered around the store, ocassionally picking up something and swooning (This shirt is only $5?? WHAT?), and then I would keep walking and walking, trying to figure out where to even begin to find anything. I think I walked for about 10 miles and then I suddenly realized.

There's a second floor.

That's when I knew I was completely overwhelmed and I couldn't take it anymore. Forever 21 had bested me.

(We won't talk about how there were all these girls half my age that were confidently strolling around the store with purpose. They didn't seem to be the least bit daunted.)

BUT all these fabulous bloggy ladies kept talking about F21 and how you can find such awesome things for amazing prices and I was like but HOW because I tried and I couldn't find anything in that place! The more posts I saw with all of these amazing finds the more determined I became. I would conquer this beast (ever so slightly melodramatic maybe).

So like any halfway tech savvy person I took to the internet. I wanted a new dress for a party I was attending and didn't want to spend more than $20 TOPS (Yes, I am cheap). So I went on the website and searched through the dresses and sandals and such, and actually wrote down the names and prices of the ones I liked on actual paper with actual pen (old skool).

After work I went straight to the mall (because that's what you do when your husband is out of town) and this time, I had a PLAN. Just stick to the plan and you'll be fine, I told myself.

And it totally worked. I walked out of there with the cutest dress and sandals you ever did see, all for less than $20. Boom.

And that is the unecessarily long and dramatic story of how I found my new favorite store (after Target of course. Target trumps all).

So if anyone wants to buy me any of the above for my birthday I would not be mad about it. The end.

Confessions

Last week and this week have been a whole new world for me at work and as a result I am struggling to keep up with everything outside of work. Including this blog. So bear with me as I try to navigate the new responsibilities and schedule, I don't know how consistent I will be with posting, and I haven't been able to read and comment on all of your blogs as much as I would like. Which makes me has a sad, but I hope to be able to get into a more consistent routine soon and manage my time for everything better. #changeisgood

In related news I moved to a different desk so I'm at a different computer which apparently only has one browser- IE. I knew I preferred Chrome or Safari but I hadn't used IE in so long that I forgot just how bad it was. Yikes. #spoiled

I think I might be more excited for my birthday than most 5 year olds. Apparently the fact that I'm getting old has yet to make birthdays an unpleasant occasion for me. Because cake. And presents. #i'manadult

I'm not good at waiting on things. I knew this but it's become even more abundantly clear over the last few weeks as we are waiting on some direction and answers for next steps. #patienceisavirtue

I'm still wearing jeans that are about 2 sizes too big for me, and have been for over a year now,  because they're comfortable. Clearly I prize comfort above fashion. Also they make me feel skinny because they're so loose. Please tell me I'm not the only one who does this. #baggyjeansdon'tcare

Really tough workout + not being able to breathe through my nose = I am going to pass out now, bye.
