Clean-Eating Treats Recipe Roundup

I've really been trying to straddle the line between "eat completely healthy all the time" and "eat ALL the bad food"- you know, that moderation thing.

I can do the really strict thing for about oh, two days (maybe) and then I'm like WHERE'S THE CHOCOLATE ALREADY so I need a plan to eat a mostly healthy diet with a little treat each day. I seem to be able to stay on track better this way.

So I've been pinning a bunch of recipes (BTDubs you should totally follow me, plug plug) for desserts that are clean-eating (or mostly clean-eating), lower calorie and smaller portions, but still satisfy the sweet tooth. These are the ones on my list to try, I hope to be able to make them soon and then I will report back with my findings! #fortheblog

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Protein Bars

Skinny Chocolate Chip Cheesecake Bars

Skinny Vanilla Bean Donuts

Guilt-Free Chocolate Truffles

Clean-eating Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

Single Serve Brownie

Have you tried any of these? What are your go-to clean-eating goodies?

Fashion Trends I Can't Rock

Y'all. I have tried. I have seen these things on other girls and been like, "OMG I totally love that, so cute!" and then I try it on and it's like "WHOA girl. No." Overall I like my shape pretty well but it does not lend itself well to certain styles, and I have had to learn to accept that and move on with my life. It's fine.

You'll just have to trust me on these because there is no photographic evidence. Thankfully. Ok, well maybe there is but I'll never tell.

1. Very baggy/boxy shirts- I just need things that define my waist. And as much as I love the trend of really flowy voluminous shirts on other girls, anytime I try it I just look like I'm wearing a trash bag. When I do try this I always end up belting it and it kind of defeats the whole purpose. Plus they usually come to just above or right at my hips and that does not do me any favors.

2. Peplum- This one is BAD. But hope springs eternal and I just keep trying it on, thinking this time it will be different. It's so not. But it looks so cute on the hanger. I have decided that anything that adds volume to the hip area is a very bad idea on me.

I am so jealous of how fabulous she looks in this shirt. This is how I always imagine myself looking in peplum and then something goes horribly wrong.

3. 1/4 sleeves- I don't even know if that's the right name for it, but basically any shirt or sweater with sleeves that come about halfway between my shoulder and my elbow. It cuts my arm off at the biggest part and just makes them look super wide.

4. Bermuda shorts- Pretty much the same issue as the 1/4 sleeves. They hit my leg at a weird spot and cut me off and just...no.

5. High-waisted shorts- I'm talking the reeaaally high waisted ones- a la Kelly Kapowski- that are back in style now. They pretty much make my hips look twice as wide, and that's not good for anyone.

What about you? Can you rock these looks? What trends do you stay away from?

Weekend Recap

Here we are, another Monday has arrived! And I am posting a recap! I know, I'm shocked too, after being a major slacker lately. I had a very relaxing weekend, here are the high points:

Found the cutest, most comfy palazzo pants at Target-

Had dinner with friends from work on Friday night-

Painted my nails and toes with Essie Mint Candy Apple

Enjoyed some time on the beach (except no swimming because of the whole bacteria thing)-

Had lunch with Adam at one of our weekend spots-

Drank caramel macchiato and enjoyed some reading-

Got my July Birchbox-

And there was a lot of reading, relaxing, and sleeping. Pretty much perfect. How was your weekend?

Currently...

- Continuing to majorly slack in the blog department. If you left a comment on Friday's post and it has not been responded to yet I am very sorry and I promise I will get to it soon! With the in-laws here this week my schedule has been even more off than it already was and I've been focusing on enjoying time with them in the evenings rather than being online.

Not that you're all waiting on the edge of your seats for my response or anything, but I try to always respond to every comment because it means a lot to me that you all read and comment on my babbling!

- Trying to decide what I should do for my one year blogiversary coming up in August. Has it really been almost a year?? Shut. up.

- Thinking I might need to cut down on my Bloglovin' follows. I always feel bad doing that but my feed is getting outta control and there are just some blogs I follow that I hardly ever or never read and I'm having a hard enough time keeping up with all of my daily reads!

- Really needing to finish planning Adam's half-birthday dinner like now, since it's coming up in about two weeks.

- Wishing Florida didn't have flesh-eating bacteria in the ocean so we could go swimming at the beach without feeling like we're risking our lives. I wish I was kidding. I realize it's not that common for people to actually contract it and die, but really, who wants to take a swim with some flesh-eating bacteria??

- Enjoying the Summer but already looking forward to cooler temps, long sleeves, boots, and pumpkin everything. I realize I live in Florida and we have at least two more months of Summer temps but let me dream.

- Honestly so ready to put the first half of this year behind me. It wasn't horrible or anything, just disappointing and frustrating in a lot of ways and I'm ready to move on.

- Looking forward to eating dinner tonight because my MIL is making her Rigatoni and OMGeeee it's so good!!

What are you up to these days?

Fridayeeee!

You can never have too much of "The Carlton", amirite??

So glad this week is over! It felt a little extra long since we had Friday off last week. It kind of felt like we should have today off too, I mean why can't 4 day weeks be a thing? I can be just as productive as I am with a 5 day week. Who do we need to talk to about this? It needs to happen.

SO I just found out last night that my in-laws are coming in THIS weekend instead of next weekend like I thought and while that makes me super excited (I LOVE my in-laws, they are like second parents to me) it also makes me realize how not ready my house is! Not that they care at all, they are so laid back and cool, but I'm neurotic about it. So guess who will be cleaning tonight? This girl!

I know, you're super jealous of my crazy Friday night plans.

Other things this week:

1. I've been doing SO much better with my eating and exercise this week, and even have a healthy lunch and snack packed for today, but I'm feeling the pull of the weekend and all the yummy things I want to eat! Why is it SO hard for me to stay on track on the weekends? I feel like it's deeply ingrained in me that Friday= eat it ALL (and I don't mean celery) and that just spills over into the next couple of days and then it's Sunday night and I'm like WHOA what just happened? But seriously, since college this has happened because my friends and I would always go out on Friday nights.

2. I found a new thing to be addicted to: Amazon Prime Music. We've been Prime members for years and taken advantage of the streaming shows and movies but I JUST started exploring the music side of it this week and I am in love! I still like Pandora too, but it's been fun to try something new. I like how with Prime you can skip as much as you want (at least I haven't had a problem with skipping yet?) and how you can pick specific songs and make your own playlists. I can't wait to make one for running!

3. I'm also absolutely loving Netflix, duh. I don't know why it took us so long to get it. We've been exploring all of the options and there are SO many shows and movies I can't wait to watch! I just discovered that they have Drop Dead Diva, total guilty pleasure right there. I never got to watch any of the last season, so I don't know what happens at the end and I'm excited to be able to watch it all the way through!

4. Quote of the week: "I'm just trying to figure out if I would rather be skinny or happy." Said by me to Adam last night when trying to decide whether to order fried chicken and fries or a salad for dinner. I chose the salad. This time.

5. There's nothing like a week full of working out after two weeks of not working out to make you realize how in shape you are NOT.

Have a lovely weekend ladies!

Confessions of a no-good, very bad blogger

I am a horrible blogger, you guys. I didn't really mean to just totally check out this past week, but it happened. I didn't post (obviously) and I didn't read any blogs or comment. I am ashamed.

I think I just needed a break though, I was feeling really worn out and uninspired. I still kind of feel that way, but I'm trying to get back to it and I feel like a confession post is a good way to do that.

- Another thing that was a big fail for me is working out. As in, I didn't do it for two weeks. I started back again on Monday and yikes. My muscles are screaming at me. #outofshapealready

- At work I'm filling in for someone on maternity leave until August, and I'm really starting to hit my stride with everything I'm doing. Just in time to give it up when she gets back. I've learned a lot though and it's always good to cross-train, in case a position in that department opens up in the future.

- I'm trying to switch to hot tea instead of coffee, and while I'm enjoying the tea I still end up having coffee at some point during the day. Kind of defeats the purpose. #addict

- I'm back on my meal plan but I keep thinking of all these new restaurants and dessert places I want to try on the weekends. I just want to eat ice cream and cheeseburgers, is that so wrong? #weekendsarefortreatingyoself

- Hurley reeeaaally needs a haircut and we keep putting it off. He's starting to look like a small sasquatch. #stillcute

- We booked our vacation in the mountains! I am SO excited! The mountains are one of my favorite places in the world, and I can't wait to soak up views like this:

- I took pictures of my 4th of July outfit to do a fashion post and I can't decide if I love them or hate them. #SOnotafashionblogger #awkward

I think that's all I got today. What has everyone been up to??
