Jekyll Island Anniversary Trip

Well, we're just an old married couple now. We've been married for 8 years as of August 12th! So on Labor Day weekend we skipped town for a little anniversary getaway in Jekyll Island. Warning: ridiculous amount of pictures ahead. You've been warned.

On Friday night we hopped in the car as soon as I got home from work to head up to Jekyll Island. It was a lovely, relaxing drive. We arrived at the hotel, the Jekyll Island Club, and got all settled in our pretty room! This place was really nice, a total splurge for us but totally worth it! Then we went across the bridge to St. Simon's Island to eat dinner at one of our all time favorite restaurants, Barbara Jean's. They always bring you a basket of pumpkin bread, jalapeño cornbread, and whole wheat rolls. I would go just for the bread, honestly, but the other food is fabulous too! I had a crab cake and Adam had the fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and mac and cheese. I may have sampled some of his too...
Pumpkin bread- Om nom nom
After dinner we went back to the hotel and wandered around the grounds. The hotel is in the middle of the Jekyll Island historic district, which is a collection of beautiful Southern style homes and little gift shops. It was really nice and peaceful at night, and although balmy (Hello Georgia in August) it was nice outside.

Does it get any more Southern than rocking chairs
on the porch??
He is not amused at the picture taking.

The next morning we got up and went to the hotel cafe for breakfast (chocolate croissant, YUM) and walked around the grounds again so we could get better pics of the houses and look in the too adorable little shops.

A little gift we got for our friends who were keeping our babies (AKA our dogs) while we were gone. I had a sample of this in the shop, soooo good!

How cute are these books?
I need dis

Then it was hot and we were starving, so we headed back over to St. Simon's Island for lunch at Southern Soul BBQ and coffee from my most favorite coffee shop (which happens to be an hour away from home, boo), Wake Up Coffee Company

After that we wandered around some antique shops and found an antique show where we met this little guy. No, I don't know why there was a cow at an antique show, but he was darling!

Then back to Jekyll Island for some more sightseeing, this is called Horton House and it's a ruin, basically just a shell of a house but it was cool to see!

And finally to Driftwood Beach which is really amazing! There are just a bunch of dead trees all along the beach which I know sounds really thrilling but it's actually gorgeous!

We had dinner at a place called Driftwood Bistro- I had really good fried catfish, bread and
sweet potato soufflé. Then we went back to the hotel and attempted to watch the Florida game, but alas, it was cancelled due to weather. :(

The next morning we made a point to get a least one picture of the two of us together, which can be really difficult to do unless you have a personal photographer to follow you around.

Then it was time to leave this beautiful place and head home. We had an absolutely wonderful time, it was SO relaxing and it's so nice to have time to really connect with each other. I can't wait to go back someday!

The road home.

I know that was long and full of pictures, so thanks for reading!
