We had such a wonderful Thanksgiving and holiday weekend! I felt like we really got to relax AND we got a lot done in preparation for the party on Saturday, so it was a good balance.
Wednesday evening we did a little bit of prep work for the next day. We made the cornbread stuffing and I made chocolate pie for Adam and pumpkin pie for me.
The next morning we got up and I, of course, put the parade on. After the parade we watched the dog show.
SANTA! I KNOW HIM!!
This was Hurley's Thanksgiving- sleeping, watching puppy videos on the laptop, and licking mashed potatoes off the spoon.
The spread! Turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, rolls, green beans, dressing, and gravy. We may or may not have set the smoke alarm off when my sweet potato casserole overflowed into the bottom of the oven and started smoking really badly, and I may or may not have had a sweet little chat with the lady at our alarm company assuring her that all was well and she could leave our smoke alarm activated because we were done cooking for the day.
Our turkey! It was SO GOOD. And I can't take any credit because this was all Adam.
The obligatory Thanksgiving picture. I finally got a picture for our Christmas cards! It's not this one, but similar to these.
I told him to do a silly kissy face one, and this was his interpretation.
Later we took some leftovers over to a friend's house who had just had surgery, so they couldn't do much cooking. We sat and had coffee with them and chatted for a while, then came back home and pretty much did nothing the rest of the day except eat leftovers and watch Miracle on 34th Street.
Friday morning Adam went out to the RC field, so I stayed home and worked on some decorations while watching Christmas movies. I also decided to start cutting out some things for a vision board I want to do for the new year. I felt like I was in college again, making collages with magazine clippings and mod podge. Yes, my college years were just that wild and crazy.
Later that day we went out to Hobby Lobby and Target to get some stuff for the party, and I decided to wear my new Firmoo glasses! More on those to come, but I LOVE THEM.
Do I look like a hipster yet?
Saturday morning was more watching Christmas movies and cleaning. That evening I went to a friend's house to do Christmas crafts. I made these snowflakes to decorate with, the white ones are paper and the red ones are popsicle sticks glued together and painted. It was so much fun! We were crafty and watched movies and ate chili and ice cream bars (not at the same time).
Sunday was a wonderfully lazy day, We made biscuits and gravy for a late breakfast/early lunch (Adam refuses to call it brunch, he thinks it's girly or something) and then I went out to look for some new Christmas placemats for our kitchen table. I thought this would be an easy task. I went to like 5 different stores and no one had ANYTHING I liked, they barely had any Christmas themed ones and the ones they did have were just boring or not my style. Normally I would say Target first, but we had gone to one Target the day before and not found any. Finally after trying several places I figured I would try Target again, and lo and behold:
They had these and a few others, and at first I was going to just get 4 of the red ones, but then I was all like "DUH! Why don't I get 4 different ones, how much cuter would that be??"
Sunday evening we decorated the tree and most of the rest of the house, and now my house is all Christmas-fied and I'm so happy! (More pictures of decor later, still have some finishing touches to do before the party)
So that was our holiday and weekend! Can we rewind to last Wednesday and do it all over again?
Oh and yesterday this came, which totally brightened my Monday:
This is actually my second box, but I didn't get very good pics of the first one, so I plan to do a review of this one soon!
That's all I've got! Linking up (one day late)!
Such a great holiday!! That cornbread stuffing sounds really good and can't wait to see your Christmas card photo!!
ReplyDeleteOh man, I love the idea of starting over at Wednesday again!! That's wonderful that you took some leftovers and spent some time with your friend that just had surgery! We made a sweet potato casserole and it turned out GREAT. Luckily ours didn't spill over eeek! I really like all of the different, but matching place mats, good choice!
